The Last Homegrown: Saturday 3 November 2012
Homegrown has been the lifeblood of the Cape Town Drum n Bass scene since its inception in September 2000. The name bares reference to its aim, promoting the growth of our home grown talent, and it has done just that!
Besides the obvious, being a show ground (or battleground) for the now internationally known hosts Counterstrike (Animal Chin and 500Mills) and creating the unstoppable force that is Hyphen, who has been opening the party with his classic finesse since day dot. It has also given birth to new legends, two of which have recently taken Europe by storm, SFR and Niskerone.
Homegrown has proved even when the current venue changed name and ownership from ‘The Jam’ (which was renowned as one of the top live music venues in the country) to where it is now, Mercury Live, a local Drum n Bass landmark!

HG not only has consistent solid line-ups, it also happens to have the finest bass music sound-system imaginable! It is loud and it is super “rattle your chest” bass heavy! Having recently traveled to Europe myself and visited the premier Drum n Bass venues in London, I can say with ease that NOTHING compares to the bass pressure you get at a Homegrown!

Sadly though, this Saturday marks the last Homegrown ever, and it is going out in style with 2 dance-floors filled to the brim with some of the hottest local Dj’s and Producers \m/
You heard that right, 2 floors and the music starts at 7pm!!!!

I shouldn’t have to explain to you that you need to get there early, because it is guaranteed to be jam packed from the beginning to end, and while it is gonna be really sad to say goodbye, we will be celebrating an event that is more than just a party, it was our home, our church, our school and playground. It taught a lot of us in the industry the ‘important lessons’ and most of all set the bar incredibly high.
Change is never easy, but it is a necessary part of life that must occur for us to reach the next phase in development, our scene has reached a mature age, and the momentum is growing! Now more than ever we need to unite as a unit to further our reach into the future.
The foundation has been laid; now let’s build a fucking mansion!!!
